750 Motor Club to start racing season at Donington Park this weekend
The Donington Park 40th Anniversary racing season starts this weekend (18-19 March) with an 18 race schedule from the resident 750 Motor Club, with a mixture of saloons and sports cars set to do battle.
The 750 Motor Club is a pioneer in low cost motorsport and as a result, entry levels for each race are always high, which almost guarantees exciting action!
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the Armed Forces Racing Challenge on Saturday, which has been developed to bring together racers from the Royal Navy, Air Force and the Army. The race will see over 30 cars go head to head in a unique contest that rewards consistency rather than outright pace; the winning car may not necessarily be the one that crosses the line first at the end of the 45 minute contest!
Other series racing this weekend include saloons in the form of the BMW 330 Challenge and Super Cooper Cup, Toyota MR2 Cup, and hot hatches of the Classic Stock Hatch series.
Prototype racers that bear a resemblance to those seen at Le Mans will compete in the Bikesports, and 750 Formula categories, while sports cars will thrill in the Roadsports, Sport Specials, Bernie’s V8s, Sports Racing and GT Challenge and Crosslé Drivers Club races.
A throwback to the early years of the club will be provided by the Historic 750 Formula which will see a number of Austin Seven Specials and Reliant-engined formula cars.
Sunday’s racing will also include a two hour contest for the Club Enduro series, which will pitch a big grid of production sports and saloon cars together for an event that will test speed, strategy and work in the pits too!
On track action starts at 9.10am on each day, with racing continuing past 5.30pm each day. Tickets are available upon arrival at the circuit for £17 per day or £30 for the full weekend, with children aged 13 and under going free. For more information, click here.
