A classic weekend in store at Donington Park
A mixture of music and motorsport of the classic variety will provide entertainment for different audiences at Donington Park, courtesy of the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) on 3-4 September, and the Donington Live classical concert on Sunday evening.
An exciting 14 race programme will come from the CSCC, with cars from as far back as the 1950s taking part.
A huge line-up of sports and saloon cars will feature in the Swinging 60s series, which has proven so popular, that it will boast two different grids this weekend, with each race being 40 minutes long.
Cars of a similar age will do battle in the Classic K series, which features GT and touring cars, while legendary British machines will race in the Jaguar Saloon and GT Championship.
A huge variety of machines is expected in the Metor Suspension Open Series, which as the name suggests, is open to pretty much any production car, including saloons, hatchbacks, sports, GTs and kit cars, while vehicles produced in the 1970s and 80s will compete for honours in the Future Classics.
The line-up changes completely on Sunday, with another eight races. First up is the CSCC Special Saloons and Modsports which will feature a line-up of thundering machines and will race twice across the day.
Slightly more modern cars will go wheel to wheel in the New Millennium and Nextec Dunlop Puma Cup, while Caterham-style sports cars should thrill in the Magnificent Sevens, which features a split grid also.
Machines built up to the end of 1999 will feature in the CSCC Modern Classics, while cars of any age with a capacity of two litres or less will compete in the Tin Tops Series.
As the racing comes to a close on Sunday evening, the music will take over, with the Donington Live classical concert set to start at 6.30. The show is hosted by Aled Jones, and features sensational music from Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro, solo vocalist Laura Wright, the Military Wives choir and Derby’s Sinfonia Viva orchestra. A spectacular firework display will follow the music at around 9pm.
The concert will be staged just outside of the main circuit gates in a picturesque setting with the Breedon on the Hill church and East Midlands countryside providing a stunning backdrop under the setting sun.
Tickets for the CSCC event at Donington Park on 3-4 September are priced at £17 per day, or £30 for the full weekend, with tickets available to purchase on the gate.
Tickets for Donington Live cost £15 in advance through www.doningtonlive.co.uk or £20 on the gate, with car parking priced at £5 per car.
