Aston Martins set to thunder into Donington Park
Priceless sports cars from across the eras will do battle at Donington Park this Sunday (28 June), with races from the Aston Martin Owners Club.
Modern Aston Martins will go head to head in the Aston Martin GT4 Cup, which pitches mighty V8 powered sports cars which are frequently seen competing in elite GT Series across the world at Le Mans. These cars are spectacular to both listen to and watch, with the sonorous engines kicking out around 450 horsepower! With driver changes thrown into the mix, a flavour of Le Mans will come to the East Midlands this weekend!
More cars from this legendary British manufacturer will race in the Intermarque Championship, one of the longest running championships in the UK, having been established in the 1970s. Unlike the GT4 Cup however, the Aston Martins will face challenges from machines from the likes of Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Austin-Healey, Sunbeam and V8 powered American cars, with vehicles ranging in age from the mid-1950s through to modern day.
Historic GT and touring cars built prior to 1966 will race in the Innes Ireland Cup, with more top line brands represented with cars including Aston Martin DB4s, Jaguar E-Types, Cobras, Ford Falcons and Lotus Cortinas among others.
Machines of a true vintage will compete in the Pre-War Team Challenge. Expect to see cars built between 1919 and 1941 in action, including Austin Sevens, Bentleys and pre-war Aston Martins. This event is unusual in motorsport, in that cars are released into the race in turn, with the slowest cars going off first and the fastest starting last, ensuring very close finishes at the end of the 20 minute race!
A race for 50s Sports Cars will see a broad range of sports cars, GTs and two seater sports racing cars do battle in a 30 minute contest, and also incorporates the Jaguar XK Challenge. The raceday ends with two races which will pitch sports cars against saloon cars, in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Further Aston Martin content will come during the lunch break, courtesy of a parade of Aston Martin machinery, old and new.
Tickets for the Aston Martin Owners Club races at Donington Park on 28 June will be available for purchase upon arrival at the circuit, priced at £15 with free entry for children aged 13 and under.
