Carlos Monedero Lopez wins Leon Haslam Helmet Design competition
Spanish motorsport enthusiast Carlos Monedero Lopez has won the Leon Haslam Helmet Design Competition, held by Donington Park and Arai Helmets Europe.
After a competition spanning several weeks, which saw entries received from across the globe, World Superbike frontrunner Haslam selected Carlos’ helmet design as his overall favourite, meaning the design will be used by Leon at the Donington Park round of this year’s World Superbike Championship.
The design features a lion shield on both sides of the helmet, red on one side and blue on the other, thus following Haslam’s existing helmet style of a ‘two sided’ helmet design, while also incorporating a strong British theme. The helmet also includes the logos of Donington Park and Sparks Children’s Charity, a cause supported strongly by Haslam.
As part of his prize, Carlos will receive a replica of the helmet in his design, a pair of race day tickets to the WSBK round at Donington and will also get the chance to meet Leon, who will present him with his replica.
Haslam commented: “The final decision was incredibly hard to make, but Carlos’ design was a real stand out, and I can’t wait to see the finished helmet at Donington on 22-24 May! It’s been a great start to the season for me, and hopefully this helmet will be a lucky charm which helps me to a double helping of victories at Donington! We hope to welcome Carlos along to give him his own copy of the helmet in person!”
Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate said: “We were thrilled to launch this competition with Leon, who we are enjoying a great relationship with, and it was all about engaging with fans of the sport and allowing them to get involved. We were all very impressed with Carlos’ design, and I’m sure it will look fantastic on track. The response to the competition was great with an international entry, and we hope we can do something similar again in the future!”
Advance tickets for the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park are on sale now.
