Donington charged up for return of Formula E testing

Donington Park will again host the official pre-season group tests for the FIA Formula E Championship, with the first test taking place next week (23-25 August). Two days will be open free of charge to the public (Wednesday 24 August & Thursday 25 August), allowing fans to see the cars and drivers in action.

Formula E is the ground-breaking electric single seater championship launched by the FIA in 2014 and boasts a line-up of some of the best drivers in the world, including several that have raced in F1. The series races across the world on specially constructed street circuits and new technology and improved cars are expected to be on show.

All the teams are based at Donington Park, and the circuit has hosted pre-season testing every year since the championship’s incarnation.

Former-F1 star Sébastien Buemi is the current champion after securing the crown at the controversial London season finale in July. He returns to defend his title with Nicolas Prost (son of F1 champion Alain) at the Renault e.Dams team and both will be in action at Donington. Other drivers to have confirmed spots on the grid for the upcoming season include Lucas di Grassi, Briton Sam Bird, and ex-F1 men Nick Heidfeld, Jean-Eric Vergne and Nelson Piquet Jr. Some teams are still to name their drivers for the year, so there could be fresh faces at Donington during the tests.

One team that will make their debut public appearance at Donington is the Jaguar Formula E team, returning the iconic British manufacturer to front-line single seater racing for the first time since it raced in F1 in 2004. Still to name their drivers, the eyes of the motorsport world will be on Donington to see who will be at the wheel for the legendary British marque.

Fans can get their free tickets by clicking here. Tickets offer general admission access to the Donington viewing areas from 9am to 5pm. Pit walk tickets are also available for purchase on the day, allowing fans to meet some of the drivers and get closer to the cars.

Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “Formula E has quickly become a must-see series for any race fan, and we’re delighted again to be hosting the vital pre-season test dates at Donington. This is a rare chance to see some of the stars in motorsport in action before their season starts, and an opportunity to see some of the latest technological innovations on show too.”
