Donington Park gears up for major BTCC Season Launch

Donington Park will host the major Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) Season Launch day next Tuesday (22 March) for the fourth consecutive year, with free entry for spectators from 12.30pm.

The BTCC Season Launch is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the motorsport season and offers the first glimpses of the new cars and drivers set to do battle in Britain’s most ferociously fought car racing championship.

Public will be able to see the new cars in action from 1pm, the season’s only official test session, with four hours of track activity, and the first chance to see stars including Jason Plato, Matt Neal, Gordon Shedden, Colin Turkington and Andrew Jordan in action this year.

The off-season has seen plenty of changes, notably with the Team BMR squad inking a deal with Subaru, giving champion drivers Plato and Turkington a fresh challenge with the iconic manufacturer, famed for its rallying heritage. With the late announcement, it is anticipated that the Season Launch at Donington will be the first time anyone will see these new machines on track.

Rule changes over the winter mean that a shake-up in the competitive order is likely, and with many drivers switching teams, the afternoon test session should be a fascinating indicator of who is looking in good shape ahead of the start of the season. Fans will be able to take in the action from some of the best spectator viewing areas in the country, while parts of the infield will also be open, including grandstand access.

The famous Donington Collections will be open during the day, as will be the Pitstop Diner in the paddock, and the Grand Prix Café at the Donington Collections, while spectators will be able to purchase tickets for the BTCC round at Donington on 16-17 April.

Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “The BTCC Season Launch day is a great way to really kick the new season into life, and we are always delighted to hold it at Donington Park. It’s extremely exciting to see the new cars, familiar faces and future stars too, and the test session should be a key indicator into who is looking in the best shape ahead of the new season.

“With the facilities on offer at Donington Park, including the spacious Paddock Suite, where most of the morning media activity takes place, there is nowhere better for the BTCC year to start, than at Donington Park.”
