Donington Park set for return of Rainworth ŠKODA Dukeries Rally this weekend
The Rainworth ŠKODA Dukeries Rally heads to Donington Park this Sunday (25 October), for the first rally to be held at the circuit since 1998, and the first time the Dukeries Rally has been held at the circuit since 1970.
A full entry list of 80 cars has been confirmed by the organisers with the event comprising approximately 55 miles on the race track, with a small amount of off track mileage included. As an added bonus, the last stage of the day will be held in darkness – a rare chance to see cars in full action at Donington with the headlights ablaze! A total of eight stages are planned, which will see cars navigate the Donington circuit while taking on additional obstacles including tyre chicanes and handbrake turns, as well as occasionally taking on the circuit in the ‘wrong’ direction!
Spectators at the rally will be able to get close to the cars in the service area where the vehicles are tended to between stages, while there will also be a Go Motorsport pit stop challenge where members of the public can test their quick wheel changing ability!
Leading the field away on the event will be the Proton Satria of David and Alice Tinn. They are expected to be challenged by a pair of sporty Darrian T90s driven by Dukeries Motor Club members Ashley Field and Ryan Vickers and an entry from Andy Fraser.
Meanwhile local driver Jason Lepley has confirmed his entry in a classic Ford Escort Mk2, and hopes his family’s history with Donington will power him to victory on Sunday. He commented: “My dad used to compete here in the 1970s on the Lombard RAC Rally. While I’ve been at Donington before on trackdays and other commercial days, this will be the first time I’ve actually rallied on the Donington circuit.”
Lepley’s son George looks set to follow in his family’s wheeltracks, and has enjoyed success in grassroots rallying. Although he won’t be in action this weekend, he very much looks like a name for the future. “George has competed in junior rallying and has won the British Junior Championship. He’ll be looking to compete at this level soon and he’ll be wanting to win straight away!”
Tickets for the Rainworth ŠKODA Dukeries Rally at Donington Park on Sunday 25 October will be available for purchase upon arrival at the circuit for £10 with free entry for children aged 13 and under. For more information, click here
