Donington Park to host new Motorsport School for Race Car and Bike Mechanics

On 19 November Donington Park will open its doors for ten weekends to host the new MIA School of Race Mechanics for race cars and race bikes, in partnership with the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) and the famous Motorsport Technical School (MTS) of Monza in Italy.

The MIA School of Race Mechanics at Donington will provide forty students with the chance to join these two employer-supported programmes, studying for 160 hours over ten weekends. The hands-on, pit-garage practical and classroom courses will be led by current race car and race bike mechanics who will share their successful experience.

The courses provide a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students looking for a career as a motorsport mechanic. While also ensuring teams which usually provide on the job training, have access to new students who have met an industry standard.

  • Race Car Mechanics will work on Sports, Touring, Formula and Rally cars gaining a knowledge of open and closed wheel racing.
  • Race Bike Mechanics will work on Super, Super Stock, Track and Off-Road Bikes for practical hands-on learning.

The top ten students from the course will receive a 2017 placement within a professional race team, giving them a head start in their motorsport careers.

Christopher Tate, Managing Director of Donington Park commented “We are delighted to be holding the School of Race Mechanics at Donington Park. We believe we are keen innovators at Donington, and are always pressing to introduce new people to the sport, whether they be future competitors, spectators, marshals, or in this case, mechanics. Quite simply, motorsport mechanics are vital to any team competing in car or bike racing, and we are pleased that the MIA has recognised that more needs to be done to encourage mechanics of the future to take an interest in the sport. We are sure the students will have a thoroughly useful experience, and are grateful that the MIA has selected to hold the school at Donington Park.”

Chris Aylett, Chief Executive of the Motorsport Industry Association commented “There is a strong demand from UK race and rally teams for well-trained mechanics, the MIA created these unique, focussed training courses, delivered by experts, to help young people get one of these jobs. MIA School of Race Mechanics students have the best possible start to their motorsport careers as all our courses are closely linked with future employers to meet their current demands”
