Donington welcomes hundreds of local residents to successful open evening
Donington Park Circuit laid on an ‘open house’ and series of displays to many hundreds of local residents at the circuit’s second annual local residents open evening last night (27 April).
Donington’s gates were opened and the large crowd enjoyed a wide range of activities, from tours of the circuit itself and race control to the large variety of displays in the Paddock Suite, where visitors were able to meet with Donington staff and many local businesses and partners of the circuit.
The emergency services were also in attendance, and many lucky locals were able to get on track not just for fast drives with circuit staff, but also as passengers in police cars and a fire engine! Other driving activities included test drives in a skid car and passenger rides in a Caterham on the Melbourne loop with BookaTrack.
Children were also catered for with lots of fun activities including go karts, face painting and bouncy castles, while local radio station Hermitage FM recorded a special show from the event which will be broadcast today (28 April) from 4PM on 99.2FM.
Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate said: “An open approach to our relationship with all elements of our local community is very important to us here at Donington Park. Allowing our friends and neighbours into the circuit free of charge, to hear and see all the great things going on here this year is just one small way of saying thank you to the many people nearby who have shown great support for Donington since the circuit’s re-opening in 2010. Their response by attendance and enthusiasm last evening was fantastic for us to see - and a great time was had by all, especially the young, whose interest is the future for all forms of sport, including ours here.”
Next up on track:
The Donington Historic Festival takes place at the circuit this Bank Holiday weekend (2-4 May), with 20 races across the three days and over 400 historic racing cars participating, while some of the cars racing at the circuit will parade into the Castle Donington village on Saturday evening. Tickets are available in advance for £20 per day.
