Endless entertainment at Donington Park World Superbikes!
Visitors to this year’s UK round of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park on 26-28 May will be able to enjoy more entertainment and family activities around the venue than ever before, allowing fans to make a real weekend of their stay at the circuit.
With three days of high-octane on track action from World Superbikes and a full international support race package, fans can also look forward to fun zones, live music and rider and star guest appearances throughout the event.
Free paddock access, banter in the Paddock Show and Saturday auction
With free access to the paddock, fans will be able to get closer to the stars than ever before, getting all important photographs and selfies as the riders prepare to do battle – the equivalent of getting into a team dressing room before a big football contest!
This access also means that fans will be able to enjoy the popular Paddock Show across the whole weekend, which features even more content this year. As well as the usual rider appearances, question and answer sessions, and light hearted banter with popular paddock personalities, the Paddock Show has been improved further for 2017 with the addition of a ‘SuperShow’ on Saturday afternoon, following the first World Superbike race of the weekend.
The SuperShow will give fans the chance to hear from all riders in each class post-race, obtain autographs and will also see the return of the Two Wheels for Life auction, allowing fans to bid on unique WorldSBK items including rider’s boots, gloves and signed merchandise. Two Wheels for Life is the official charity of the Fédération Internationale de Motorcyclisme (FIM) with all money raised going towards programmes that enable healthcare to reach rural communities in Africa with reliable transport systems.
Following the auction, the CIA Landlords Insurance team will be in action once more with the second annual rider concert, with many top riders taking to the stage to further entertain the crowd.
Fun for all the family
Fans of all ages will be kept entertained with fun zones on the circuit infield, with plenty of interactive activities to fully immerse themselves in the event. Attractions on offer include Extreme Wheelies, where visitors can learn to master the art of the wheelie in a safe and controlled environment, while fans will also be able to experience the thrills of 200mph bike racing with a motion simulator. The Army will also have a presence on the infield, with a military vehicle display and a free of charge camouflaged infra-red shooting range.
There’s a whole range of children’s entertainment on offer including a children’s disco on Saturday afternoon at the campsite entertainment zone, mascot appearances, stilt walkers, bouncy castles, go karts, remote control cars, and face painting.
Campsite evening entertainment
The vibrant campsite on the circuit infield, which offers stunning views of the on track action, will be the place to be across the weekend with live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. A total of six bands will be performing, three each night, with a mixture of pop, rock and indie covers, with all visitors across the weekend welcome to stay behind after the racing to enjoy the music.
Bands performing include Iron Tyger, who will headline on Friday evening with a medley of anthems inspired by the Monsters of Rock and Download festivals. Local acts Voodoo Moon and El Duderino will also be performing on Friday night. Saturday’s music starts off with Nottingham group Those Who Knew, followed by dual headliners Thunder Daze and Tick Tick Boom, both showcasing rock classics and anthems.
The campsite will have a real festival feel provided by a range of bars and food outlets, as well as full facilities for campers. There are also further activities here for children including a football pitch and activities including space hoppers and giant garden games.
Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “World Superbikes is our biggest on track event of the year, and we’re expecting a huge turnout of people across the three days. As a result, we are dedicated to putting on a fantastic variety of entertainment around the whole site during the weekend, and with live music, open paddock access, activities for children and lots of other family orientated fun to ensure a real festival feel, we know spectators of all ages at the event will have a weekend to remember.”
