Haslam reveals special helmet design for Donington World Superbike round
Leon Haslam has revealed the special one-off helmet design he will race with in the UK World Superbike round at Donington Park this weekend (22-24 May).
The design is the winning entry from a competition held by Donington Park in association with Haslam and Arai Helmets Europe. The winning designer was Spaniard Carlos Monedero Lopez, who will receive his own copy of the winning design at the circuit on Sunday morning.
The competition was launched in February and received entrants from across the world, with Haslam selecting Carlos’ helmet design as his overall favourite. The design features a lion shield on both sides of the helmet, red on one side and blue on the other, thus following Haslam’s existing helmet style of a ‘two sided’ design, while also incorporating a strong British theme. The helmet also includes the logos of Donington Park and Sparks Children’s charity, a cause supported by Haslam.
Haslam commented: “The final decision was incredibly hard to make, but Carlos’ design was a real stand out, and I can’t wait to race with the helmet at Donington this weekend. I’m looking forward to welcoming Carlos on Sunday to give him his own copy of the helmet in person!”
Competition winner Carlos Monedero Lopez commented: “I would like to thanks Leon Haslam for choosing my design. For me it’s a huge opportunity and encouragement to open up my own workshop for helmets and sports equipment design. It’s like a dream come true! I would also like to thank Donington Park and Arai Helmets Europe for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this competition.”
The action this weekend starts at 9.15am with the first World Superbike session starting at 10am. Tickets for the race weekend will be available on the gate on all three days with free entry for children aged 13 and under.
