Jordan targets glory on Triple Eight’s 500th BTCC start this weekend
Donington Park local Andrew Jordan is hoping this weekend will be extra special for his MG Triple Eight Racing team, who will celebrate their 500th BTCC race start in the first touring car race on Sunday.
Jordan, from nearby Lichfield in Staffordshire, was BTCC champion in 2013 running with his family Eurotech Racing team, but has switched to Triple Eight for 2015, re-joining the squad he last raced with in 2008. The 25-year-old has won at Donington twice before and heads to this weekend’s round confident of a strong result.
“Donington could give us a good chance” Jordan commented. “I have won there in the past and love racing at my home event.”
Jordan’s confidence comes despite a difficult opening weekend of the season at Brands Hatch, where he scored a seventh and a fifth place. But with team mate Jack Goff holding a joint championship lead, there is optimism that the results will come.
“Brands was obviously very frustrating, we went there expecting to challenge for pole which we weren’t able to do. In race three we really turned the car on, and it was doing what I wanted and it felt like it had really come to life, so hopefully that will carry forward to Donington.
“For Jack [Goff] to be leading [the championship] after a ninth, fourth and a second, it shows that scoring all the time is key, and I think with the increased weight and race two grid shuffle, this will be more important than ever.
Donington ranks as one of Jordan’s top circuits, citing its high speed swoops and undulating nature. “Donington really gets me going, and the Craner Curves are a real stand out section for me, I love the elevation change. I have fond memories of my wins in 2011 and 2013, anywhere you win has to be a special place from then on.
“My aim is to get pole this weekend, I think anything less than the front two rows will be a big disappointment. Obviously I want wins and podiums, a win is definitely possible and that is what I am aiming for. I am very proud to be part of the team and to represent Triple Eight in its 500th race, I would love to get a win for them in race one!”
Advanced tickets are available online until 5pm tonight (Wednesday).
