Junior touring car racers to thrill at Donington in July
A new touring car series for junior drivers will headline the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) event at Donington Park on 16-17 July.
The B-TEC Development Series will feature machines that raced recently in the British Touring Car Championship, and has been set up by leading team bosses as a ‘feeder’ category for younger drivers who are aiming to become touring car racers in the future.
Cars built to the popular NGTC (Next Generation Touring Car) format are eligible to race, and cars already confirmed to race include the fan-favourite ‘Sherman’ and ‘Panzer’ Audi A4s of Rob Austin Racing which have raced in the BTCC for several years, and the four Volkswagen CCs which secured the Team’s Championship for Team BMR last year, and very nearly took Jason Plato to the Driver’s Championship.
With such calibre of machinery set to do battle, the series has attracted fervent attention from the motoring press, and a strong grid is expected to do battle, with Donington set to host three races on 16-17 July. Kieran Gallagher, who competed in the BTCC last year is the first driver to sign up and will race one of the Volkswagen CCs that will be run by Team BKR.
Donington Park Sporting Director Bob Adams commented: “This new B-TEC Development Series should deliver very exciting racing and we’re looking forward to seeing a bunch of hungry young racers in very capable cars going wheel to wheel here. We’re regularly asked by fans to have more touring car style racing, and this is the perfect opportunity to see the Jason Platos and Colin Turkingtons of the future do battle in the very cars they were racing last year!”
The B-TEC Development Series joins a host of other championships, including sports cars and saloons which will be competing at the circuit on 16-17 July, with tickets available to purchase upon arrival at the circuit.
