Local lad Haslam starts from pole position today

Donington Park ambassador Leon Haslam will start from pole position for today’s opening race of the MCE British Superbike Championship season.

The grid for the opening race has been determined by combined practice times, and Haslam’s best time put him over a tenth clear of JG Speedfit Kawasaki team mate Luke Mossey, with returning 2015 champion Josh Brookes also on the front row.

Peter Hickman, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and James Ellison fill row two, with John Hopkins, Sylvain Guintoli and Glenn Irwin on row three.

Haslam set the fastest time in this morning’s warm-up session, with the major players all showing their hand. The local man and Donington ambassador was nearly three tenths of a clear of Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, with 2014 World Champion Sylvain Gunitoli in third. Former champion Josh Brookes was fourth quickest, with Luke Mossey and Peter Hickman completing the top-six.

Glenn Irwin, Christian Iddon, Jake Dixon and James Ellison completed the top-10. The first BSB race of the year takes place at Donington at 13.30.

Tickets are available on the gate throughout the day, priced at £30, with free entry for children aged 13 and under. For more information click here.
