Massive entry confirmed for Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally at Donington Park
A huge entry of 80 cars has been confirmed for the Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally at Donington Park on Sunday 23 October, the final motorsport event of the 2016 calendar at the East Midlands circuit.
The sold-out entry includes plenty of machines familiar to rallying enthusiasts, including the venerable Ford Escort and Subaru Impreza, as well as more unusual cars including a Vauxhall Adam and a spectacular Darrian T90 driven by last year’s victor Ashley Field. Last year’s runners-up Martin Hodgson and Tony Jones are also back in their Ford Escort.
This is the third rally to be held at the venue in the last 12 months, courtesy of the Dukeries Motor Club, following a lengthy period without this popular spectator sport at Donington. These previous events have also attracted sold out entries, demonstrating the appeal of the circuit for competitors.
The rally will feature eight stages around Donington, which will utilise not just the race track, but other areas of the site too including access roads, the pit lane and the paddock, with stage plans to be released on the day of the event. Other novelties for this event include tyre chicanes and off road segments, while some stages will see the competitors take on the circuit in the ‘wrong’ direction!
The Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally is a round of three regional stage rally championships, meaning there’s plenty to play for this weekend, and the competition set to be extremely close.
Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “It’s fantastic that yet again, the Dukeries Motor Club have been able to attract a sold-out entry for the forthcoming Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally at Donington Park. Rallying has proven to be an exceptionally popular addition to our calendar in the past couple of years, and we expect another exciting event next Sunday, our final motorsport event of the year.”
