MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship confirms Donington date for 2016
The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship has revealed its provisional full calendar for the 2016 season, with the prestigious series returning to Donington Park on 27-29 May 2016 for its only UK round, and the circuit’s premier event of the year.
British riders dominated the championship in 2015, with Jonathan Rea clinching his first title ahead of fellow Brits Chaz Davies, Tom Sykes, and Donington-supported Leon Haslam. The Brits were so dominant, that they won 25 of the 26 races throughout the year.
The Brits look well poised to keep up their run of success into 2016, with Rea and Sykes remaining at Kawasaki, while rising star and Donington local Alex Lowes has joined the Pata Crescent Yamaha squad.
The World Supersport and Superstock 1000 championships will also return to Donington, with further race content to be confirmed at a later date.
Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “We are very much looking forward to the return of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship to Donington Park in 2016. These are some of the best motorcycle racers in the world, and the fact that the British riders are so prominent right now means we can expect further home heroics here in 2016.
“We will continue to work with the FIM to further improve the spectator experience at our event, and we look forward to confirming further details of this in due course.”
Tickets for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship will go on sale soon.
