Next stop Donington Park for World’s biggest bus show
Showbus, the World’s biggest bus and coach display show will be held at Donington Park for the first time on Sunday 25 September.
The event, now in its 44th year, will see up to 400 buses and coaches arrive at Donington Park for a colourful display of old and new vehicles that have formed the backbone of the British commute for decades.
To be held on the circuit’s Tarmac Lake, Showbus will allow visitors to join like-minded enthusiasts and those who work in the transport sector to discover the latest bus and coach technologies, information on restorations, free bus tours of the local area, memorabilia stalls and much more. A class leading drive-a-bus simulator featuring OMSI2 software will also be available to trial in the indoor Launch Pad area.
The new central location for the show is expected to attract many new displays from exhibitors based too far away from previous venues.
This year’s event is linked with the Barton Fleet Review, commemorating 150 years since the birth of Thomas Henry Barton OBE, founder of the local transport company. Their soon to be redeveloped premises in Chilwell will be open in the morning with some of the old fleet members on show, with many of these moving to Donington Park to form a display in the afternoon, with vehicles expected including a 1911 Charabanc to the lowest double-decker ever built.
A special electric bus service from East Midlands Parkway will be operated every 20 minutes by Nottingham Community Transport to the Donington Park Main Entrance, where a free shuttle will take visitors to the heart of the show, while the East Midlands Airport Skylink services will also serve the park entrance.
Donington Park Commercial Director Roger Lowe commented: “We are very pleased that Showbus have chosen to bring the World’s biggest bus and coach display to Donington Park. The versatility and central location of our venue and facilities means we are the perfect location for this event and we look forward to welcoming thousands of people to Donington Park, many of whom will never have visited us before. With endless possibilities for event organisers, we are confident of attracting further new events to the venue in the near future.”
Showbus Organiser, Martin Isles, commented: “Enthusiasts and bus operators are really excited about the new venue and especially the opportunity to see so many old Barton buses, the company’s eclectic mix of vehicles made it an enthusiast’s favourite.”
Showbus is the latest new event to take advantage of Donington’s diverse facilities, exhibition areas and 640 acres of land. New events this year have this year included car auctions, antiques fairs and new music events, including the Donington Live classical concert, also to be held in September.
Tickets for Showbus at Donington Park on Sunday 25 September will be available for £12. For more information on the event, visit www.showbus.com.
