Plato even quicker in second Donington BTCC practice

Team BMR’s Jason Plato set a scorching pace in the second practice session for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington this afternoon.

Plato set a time even quicker than his morning effort, setting a lap time of 1m09.553s, and almost half a second clear of his nearest challenger. At one point, the two-time champion was over a second clear of the field, making full use of his lack of success ballast, after he suffered a difficult weekend in the season opener at Brands Hatch.

Honda’s Gordon Shedden was second quickest, with MG ace and local driver Andrew Jordan third. Plato’s team mate Colin Turkington was fourth ahead of fellow Team BMR racer Aron Smith, with Mike Bushell an impressive sixth quickest in the AmD Ford Focus, and less than a second off the overall pace.

Youngsters Tom Ingram and Aiden Moffat were seventh and eighth, with Brands Hatch race winner Matt Neal ninth and Jack Goff’s MG completing the top-10.

BTCC qualifying takes place at 15.35, with Plato now the hot favourite for top spot following his rapid practice pace.
