Ryde eyes successful wildcard at Donington to secure full time World Supersport place in 2016
World Supersport wildcard rider Kyle Ryde is hoping his entry this weekend at Donington Park could lead to a full season on the world scene in 2016.
Ryde, from Jacksdale in Nottinghamshire, currently sits in second place in the British Supersport Championship, having taken a win and four podiums from the first six races in his rookie year in the series. Full of optimism and prepared to rub shoulders with some of the world’s best riders on his World Supersport debut, the 17-year-old is hoping to make enough of an impression to secure a full time ride in 2016.
“I’m very excited to make my world debut at my home circuit in front of my family and friends,” Ryde commented. “I’ve done a wildcard in Moto3 before, but it didn’t go as planned. This is a second chance I suppose to show people what I can actually do and I’m very excited.
“I never thought I’d be where I am in British Supersport at this moment in time. I’m second in the championship at the moment and it would be nice to go to World Supersport next year.
“At the end of the year, wherever I come, I know I’ve got the pace and I’d like to go to World Supersport next year so I can learn more and make my career last a lot longer and get even faster.”
World Supersport supports the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park this weekend (22-24 May). Tickets are available on the gate from £10, with free admission for children aged 13 and under when accompanied by a paying adult.
