Thundersport racers gear up for ‘Duke of Donington’ event
Hundreds of motorcycle racers will be in action at Donington Park this weekend (26-27 September), as the ThundersportGB motorcycle club heads to the Leicestershire circuit for the second time in 2015.
Thundersport is renowned for providing superb action, with an incredible 34 races scheduled across the two days, with a huge variety of two wheeled machines in action. Qualifying on Saturday takes place until 11.45 with a total of 16 races set to start from 11.45. 18 more races follow on Sunday, as well as numerous warm up sessions.
Categories in action include the Thundersport GP1 series, which features large capacity open class machines, so expect to see big variety here!
Superstars of the future will go elbow to elbow in the Dunlop Aprilia Superteen Challenge. This category for riders aged 12-18 has produced many big names of the sport, including former World Champion Casey Stoner, and Donington locals Sam and Alex Lowes. World Superbike racers Tom Sykes, Leon Camier and Chaz Davies also began their careers here, and Donington Park’s Little Racers ambassador Max Cook looks set to claim the title this weekend, marking him out as a name to watch in years to come.
Riders making the next step up in their careers will do battle in the Aprilia RRV450GP series which is joined by Formula 400 for 400cc bikes.
Famous superbikes will return to the track in the Golden Era Superbike races, featuring machines as ridden by the likes of Carl Fogarty, while similar machines will race in the Golden Era Supersport series.
Racers on a budget will compete in the Thundersport 500 class, where the low costs virtually ensure big grids and sensational racing. 600cc machinery will race in the Pre-National Sport 600 and 600 Sportsman Elite categories, with Stocktwins and Streetfighters completing the bustling racing line-up.
