Thundersport spawns 130 new motorcycle racers at Donington Park
The Thundersport GB Motorcycle Club have introduced over 130 new motorcycle riders to motorsport competition at Donington Park this week (17-18 February), with two days of ACU Race Licence courses and testing.
Both days saw aspiring racers take in Classroom Training Courses (CTC) where complete newcomers were made aware of all things needed for safe motorcycling competition, as well as taking a test, before taking to the track to put the theory to practice in the Basic Rider Assessments.
Riders were able to undertake practice starts as well as enjoying a significant amount of track time to refine their skills. In most cases, riders arrived at Donington Park without any racing credentials, and were able to leave eight hours later as a fully licenced road racer.
The Thundersport GB club is renowned for generating top line motorcycle talent, with Casey Stoner, Cal Crutchlow, Bradley Smith, Leon Camier and Alex and Sam Lowes among those who learned to race with the club before moving on to top class international competition.
Donington Park Sporting Director Bob Adams commented: “It’s extremely encouraging to see so many newcomers to motorcycle racing gain their race licences at Donington Park this week. We understand that 130 new riders is a record number for the Thundersport GB club, and with their reputation for generating talent, hopefully some stars of the future have been created this week at Donington!”
