Turkington takes first win of 2015 in thrilling race two
Reigning BTCC champion Colin Turkington claimed his first win of the year in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Donington.
Turkington started from second place but made a good start to take the lead from Gordon Shedden on the run down to Redgate on the first lap. He then held off early challenges from Shedden and Donington local Andrew Jordan, before extending a lead and clinching his first win for his new team.
Matt Neal fought his way up to take second place after a combative drive. Once moving into second place with four laps to go, he set about closing down Turkington’s advantage at the front, which stood at over five seconds. Neal took huge chunks out of Turkington’s lead, but ultimately wasn’t able to get quite close enough.
Adam Morgan took third place after a battling drive, constantly in the mix and occasionally on the grass for good measure. He enjoyed a thrilling contest with Jordan, and ultimately came out on top, with Jordan settling for fourth ahead of race one winner Jason Plato, who was loaded up with success ballast.
Rob Collard was sixth for West Surrey Racing, ahead of BTCC youngster Josh Cook, with Jack Goff, Sam Tordoff and Andy Priaulx completing the top-10.
Pole sitter Gordon Shedden challenged at the front early on, but on the soft tyres, fell back through the field and eventually finished 14th.
The final BTCC race of the weekend starts at 17.17.
