F1 champion Hamilton: Donington has the corners F1 is missing - 15 Jan 2018

Four-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has lauded the challenges posed by two of MotorSport Vision's circuits in an interview with Autosport magazine.

Hamilton believes Donington Park has many elements that are missing on the current F1 calendar, and he also singled out Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire for praise.

Hamilton last raced at Donington Park in 2003 in Formula Renault, and won three times at the East Midlands circuit in his early career.

He said: "You can approach a corner [on a current F1 circuit] knowing that if you go in 5% too much you can go wide and come back on. I don't like that.

"I used to love Oulton Park and Donington. Donington, the Old Hairpin was a nightmare - you have to come off the brakes and run the speed in, use the downforce.

"Then up the hill and the second right before the back straight - you can't even see the white line. There is white line and then gravel and the gravel sucks you off.

"Oh man! Finding the limit there, that corner is way harder than all the corners in F1. Coppice. That's the sort of corner F1 is missing. If we had that back in F1, it would bring another level to the challenge."

Donington Park was acquired last year by MotorSport Vision, which also owns Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Snetterton circuits. It is currently undergoing a multi-million pound transformation of its facilities in preparation for the new season.

Major upgrades include a brand new restaurant and café in the heart of the paddock, modern toilet blocks in the most popular spectator areas, a new circuit office adjacent to the Formula E compound, hard surfacing of Paddock 3 and a large new grandstand and improvements to the viewing bank at Hollywood.
