Jonathan Rea topped the times in the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship Warm Up session at Donington Park this morning (Sunday).
Six-time champion Rea set a 1m26.438s to go top with two minutes to go ahead of long time pacesetter Michael Ruben Rinaldi by 0.078s in the 15 minute session. The Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK rider was four tenths back from the all-time lap record he set yesterday, a 1m26.041s.
Rinaldi’s Aruba.it Racing Ducati teammate, yesterday’s race winner and championship leader Alvaro Bautista, placed third, 0.123s behind. Toprak Razgatlioglu finished the session fourth with his teammate Andrea Locatelli in fifth.
Alex Lowes made it two Kawasakis in the top six, a tenth ahead of the leading privateer entry of Danilo Petrucci. The BMWs of Scott Redding and Tom Sykes were eighth and tenth, split by Axel Bassani from Motocorsa Racing.
The WorldSBK Superpole race is next at 1pm with Rea on pole from Bautista and Petrucci.
