Pata Yamaha Prometeon rider Toprak Razgatlioglu heads to the UK round of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park this weekend (30 June-2 July) with victories in his sights.
The Turkish ace, the 2021 World Superbike champion, took a hat trick of wins at the venue last season, but has only triumphed once so far in 2023, with Ducati’s Alvaro Bautista proving the rider to beat.
But Donington has been a strong venue for Yamaha riders over the past few years; Michael van der Mark won both races in 2018, and Razgatlioglu won a pair on his way to the title in 2021, which included a stunning rise from 13th on the grid to P1.
He went even better last year, as he triumphed in all three races, including a dominant showing in the first contest, as he won by over six seconds.
Whilst a victory margin of such magnitude will be a tall order this time around, Razgatlioglu reckons his previous form means he’ll be in the mix this weekend.
“I have very good memories in the UK – my first podiums and then last year we won all three races with Yamaha!” he said.
“We will see what is possible this weekend, maybe with the new asphalt we have more grip and there is a good chance to win – I hope. I need wins in race one and race two, not just the Superpole Race!
“It’s a more real win in the full race, I am just focused on this. We know Ducati will still be strong, but I hope we are winning in Donington Park.”
Tickets for World Superbikes at Donington Park are available at advance rates until 4pm on Wednesday 28 June, after which they’ll be available at full prices on the gate. For more information and to book, click here.
