Kyle Ryde celebrated a first Omologato Superpole win on his first attempt at the one lap shootout style qualifying at Donington Park with an incredible time of 1m:27.320s – the fastest Bennetts British Superbike Championship lap on the Grand Prix circuit.
Max Cook was the first rider to attempt his lap and the Bennetts BSB rookie set the initial time to beat on his debut at the Omologato Superpole competition. Jack Kennedy was second to set a time and he went top for the Mar-Train Yamaha team by 0.612s.
Kennedy then remained fastest as Christian Iddon, Peter Hickman and Danny Buchan set their times as the reigning Quattro Group British Supersport Champion remained ahead after the first five riders on track.
However, Andrew Irwin toppled him from the top with his flying lap on the Honda Racing UK Fireblade, going fastest by 0.0945s and he held that position as Danny Kent, Lee Jackson, Ryan Vickers and Josh Brookes completed their Omologato Superpole laps.
Tommy Bridewell then went ahead with a time 0.260s faster than Andrew Irwin to put the BeerMonster Ducati at the top of the times with just four riders left to complete their time attack.
Championship leader Glenn Irwin was next and he could only set the third fastest time before Jason O'Halloran displaced Bridewell from the top with a time that was 0.100s clear of his BeerMonster Ducati rival.
O’Halloran’s spell at the top was short as Leon Haslam moved to the top as the penultimate rider on track. The ROKiT BMW Motorrad rider set a time 0.171s ahead of the McAMS Yamaha contender to hold the leading position despite a moment at the Esses and running slightly wide at Melbourne.
Last to go was Ryde, who had been fastest yesterday for the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha team and he was able to slash a further 0.083s off Haslam’s time to take the Omologato pole position ahead of this afternoon’s BikeSocial Sprint Race.
