Mills holds off charging Queen to win rescheduled round four

KMR Sport’s Tom Mills held off a charging Colin Queen to claim victory in the rescheduled Silverstone race at Donington Park.

Mills led every race from pole but had to watch Fortec’s Queen in his mirrors for pretty much the entire contest. Queen ultimately finished four tenths behind, with Cooper Webster third.

Having made a decent start, Mills looked to build a decent lead early on, stretching an advantage of 0.8 seconds at the end of the first tour, but after that, Queen creeped ever closer to the rear wing of Mills’ car.

At around a tenth of a second per lap, Queen drew closer until four tenths covered the pair, with Webster keeping up with them too with a string of fastest laps.

But while Queen was able to close the gap to less than four tenths on occasion, he wasn’t able to force a move, with Mills taking his third win of the year and 0.403s ahead of the American, with Webster only seven tenths further back. Queen and Webster both earned their third podiums of the season in the process.

The top three pulled out a big gap to the rest of the field, with KMR’s Jeremy Fairbairn holding on to his fourth place grid position, and ahead of Fox Motorsport’s Sid Smith who equalled his best result of the season so far with fifth from eighth on the grid.

Liam McNeilly had finished ahead of his teammate but was penalised five seconds for track limits and therefore took sixth ahead of Graham Brunton Racing’s Harry Burgoyne Jnr in seventh.

Burgoyne finished half a second ahead of the third KMR car of Jack Clifford, who survived a first lap off at Redgate to take eighth, with Harri Reynolds ninth for Elite, and another driver to pick up a penalty for track limits.

Ruhaan Alva completed the top-10, despite a gravelly moment at the Old Hairpin late in the race.

Thomas Lee (Evans GP) and Dylan Hotchin were the final two finishers.

The next race of the weekend, the first Donington Park contest, is scheduled to commence at 17.45.
