McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran recorded the fastest ever Bennetts British Superbike lap of Donington Park with a stunning effort in Saturday’s eBay qualifying session.

The Australian’s time of 1m27.196s put him 0.142s clear of BeerMonster Ducati’s championship contender Tommy Bridewell, while ROKiT Racing BMW’s Leon Haslam claimed the final spot on the front row, and only 0.026s further adrift.

Having set the fastest time across the three practice sessions Haslam’s fellow local man Kyle Ryde could only manage fourth fastest in qualifying, ahead of LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha teammate Ryan Vickers, who was fastest in FP3.

Championship leader Glenn Irwin was sixth quickest on his BeerMonster Ducati, while Niccolo Canepa put his McAMS Yamaha seventh ahead of his Bennetts BSB debut.

Peter Hickman (FHO Racing BMW Motorrad), Charlie Nesbitt (MasterMac Honda by Hawk Racing) and Lee Jackson (Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki) completed the top-10.

The first race of the weekend, the BikeSocial Sprint Race, is due to commence at 16.30
