Bennetts BSB Donington Park Race 3: O’Halloran wins epic final contest

Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki’s Jason O’Halloran claimed race three victory in a classic Bennetts British Superbike Championship contest this afternoon (Sunday).

The Australian was as low as sixth on the first lap, but fought his way up the order to third in the opening half of the race. While Tommy Bridewell and Glenn Irwin exchanged the lead, O’Halloran kept watch and moved into second on lap 18 when Bridewell forced his way past Irwin at the Melbourne Hairpin.

O’Halloran then squeezed past Bridewell into the lead at Schwantz on the penultimate lap, and established a gap of two tenths crossing the line to start the final tour.

With Bridewell and Irwin resuming their scrap, O’Halloran had just enough in hand to claim his first win of the season, and his maiden triumph with the Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki squad.

Behind him, Bridewell and Irwin went side by side at the Fogarty Esses, with Irwin briefly moving past only for the Honda rider to repass at the Melbourne Hairpin. With the fight ongoing and Bridewell just breaking clear to take second in his 400th race, Danny Kent on the McAMS Racing Yamaha was able to capitalise to move alongside Irwin at Goddards, and claimed the final spot on the podium, 0.050s clear of the Ducati.

Behind them, race one winner Kyle Ryde claimed fifth at his local circuit for OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing ahead of fellow local man Leon Haslam on the ROKiT Haslam Racing BMW Motorrad.

Andrew Irwin escaped a gravelly moment at the Fogarty Esses mid race to take seventh for Honda Racing UK, ahead of the MasterMac Honda of Lee Jackson.

Oxford Products Racing Ducati’s Christian Iddon and O’Halloran’s teammate Max Cook completed the top-10 after a thrilling final contest.
