Granfors pips McCaughan to double pole at Donington Park

25 May 2024

Fortec Motorsport's Linus Granfors soared to a double pole position at Donington Park this morning.

The Swedish driver recorded a 1m28.381s to put him 0.189s clear of KMR Sport’s Brandon McCaughan, who put in a late lap to go second.

McCaughan held top spot entering the final five minutes of the 15 minute session, but Granfors saved his best for last, setting a 1m28.381s with a couple of laps remaining to snatch pole away from the Irish racer's grasp.

Behind the top two came Fox Motorsport's Liam McNeilly, who returns to the series for a one off appearance this weekend, having graduated to the USF Juniors series in America. The Donington Park race winner was just 0.019s behind McCaughan and less than a tenth clear of Marcus Luzio, who delivered his best qualifying performance yet with fourth place and only just over three tenths away from pole.

KMR Sport's Harry Burgoyne was fifth fastest, a tenth clear of the Elite Motorsport duo of Finn Harrison and Alisha Palmowski, who were separated by a scant 0.002s.

Graham Brunton Racing's Callum Baxter was just over half a tenth further back in eighth and 0.069s ahead of Arden's Leon Wilson, with the third KMR car of Chloe Grant completing the top-10, which was covered by 0.990s.

Grant was five thousandths clear of Fox's Branden Templeton with teammate Megan Bruce, Fortec's Jack Taylor, Fortec's Dan Hickey and Graham Brunton Racing's Mayer Deonarine competing the runners.

Granfors' second quickest time of 1m28.554 ensured he topped that time sheet too, 0.182s clear of Marcus Luzio. McCaughan and McNeilly are next up ahead of Harrison, Palmowski, Wilson, Burgoyne, Grant and Templeton.

The first race of the weekend is due to commence at 17.05.
