GB4 race 1: Four wins in a row for Granfors after Donington Park opening triumph

Linus Granfors claimed his fourth GB4 race win in a row, with a superb victory at Donington Park. The Swedish driver held off a late charge from Brandon McCaughan to win by six tenths of a second, with series returnee Liam McNeilly taking third for Fox Motorsport.

Granfors made a good start from pole position to lead the field down to Redgate while McNeilly and McCaughan went wheel to wheel, with the Irish driver just about prevailing to hold on to second, with McNeilly instead having to keep Elite's Finn Harrison in check.

Across the first 10 laps, the top two were almost inseparable on lap times, and even matched each other on lap three, with little between them until the closing stages, when McCaughan began to trim the margin. He took two tenths out of the gap on lap 11, and halved the lead down to four tenths starting the final lap, as he tested the Swedish driver's nerve.

But a strong final tour ensured Granfors took the flag six tenths clear of McCaughan, with McNeilly a couple of seconds further back having threatened to join the lead scrap late on, having set the fastest lap.

Marcus Luzio claimed fourth in the Luzio.com entry ahead of the inter-KMR Sport battle between Scottish pair Harry Burgoyne and Chloe Grant, with Grant gaining four places throughout the contest after one of her strongest GB4 drives.

Finn Harrison recovered from a spill at the Fogarty Esses to take seventh after a thrilling battle with Graham Brunton Racing's Callum Baxter, with the duo going wheel to wheel for several corners, with Baxter settling for eighth.

Arden's Leon Wilson and Fox Motorsport's Branden Templeton completed the top-10, having been in the thick of the action throughout.

Megan Bruce engaged in battle with teammate Templeton on her way to 11th, with a three car train behind her comprising of Fortec's Dan Hickey, Graham Brunton Racing's Mayer Deonarine and the third Fortec of Jack Taylor, who was just a tenth behind, and the final classified finisher.

Granfors joins Tom Mills as the only drivers to have won four GB4 races in a row, and has the chance to make it five from pole position in race two, which is due to start at 10.07 tomorrow.
