GB4 race 3: Templeton blasts to maiden victory

26 May 2024

Fox Motorsport’s Branden Templeton romped from fifth on the grid to take victory in the reverse grid final contest at Donington Park this afternoon.

A strong start fired him up to second place, and he passed race leader Mayer Deonarine at the start of the second lap, before pulling away at a rapid rate to win by seven seconds, with the race ending prematurely due to a red flag with Chloe Grant stranded in the gravel.

From pole position, Deonarine made one of his best starts of the season to head the pack down to Redgate on the first lap, and built a strong lead halfway round the first lap while Templeton soared past teammate Megan Bruce and Fortec pairing Jack Taylor and Dan Hickey.

With those cleared, Templeton closed rapidly on Canadian entrant Deonarine, and was just three tenths behind ending the first lap. Wasting no time, the Fox Motorsport contender made his move at Redgate, and from there he blasted into the distance while the rest of the pack squabbled behind him.

Deonarine held second for several laps with a nice buffer to Taylor behind, but teammate Callum Baxter was also on the move and having started eighth on the grid was already up to third on the third lap.

Bringing Elite's Alisha Palmowski with him, who started ninth, the pair closed up on Deonarine, who got his elbows out. He was finally passed by Baxter for second place at the Fogarty Esses on lap seven, with Palmowski also moving past crossing the line to start lap eight. She ended a tricky weekend with the final spot on the podium, while Baxter's second place was his maiden GB4 rostrum.

Deonarine claimed his best GB4 result with fourth place with the race halted a couple of minutes early after Grant became stranded in the gravel at McLeans on lap seven, following an incident while racing Finn Harrison.

That put the result back a lap, with Taylor another to score a best result in fifth ahead of KMR Sport duo Brandon McCaughan and Harry Burgoyne.

Templeton's Fox teammate Liam McNeilly climbed from 13th on the grid to take eighth ahead of Fortec's championship leader Linus Granfors, who bounced up and down the order throughout, going from 15th and last on the grid to ninth, and ahead of Fortec's Dan Hickey, who completed the top-10.
