The East Midlands venue’s ‘biggest’ event of the year is now just days away, as Convoy in the Park brings a packed weekend of truck racing and entertainment on 9/10 August. A jumbo festival of all things trucking returns at one of the country’s largest family-friendly truck shows of the year!
Headline track action comes from the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) and the returning International Truck Prix, but Convoy in the Park also features a mega mix of off-track entertainment for all the family, with a live action arena, live music, bustling display areas and much more.
A fantastic nine truck races in total are scheduled, with a quintet of BTRC contests complemented by four International Truck Prix races. Witness the biggest championship in the UK, as five-tonne brawlers provide the overtakes and edge-of-the-seat action that has made the series a fan favourite and a spectacle not to be missed.
Nine-time champion Ryan Smith has faced stiff competition this season, with ten-time champion Stuart Oliver currently leading the Division One standings by eleven points over the Mansfield racer. Can Smith regain his championship lead at Donington Park, or will his rivals put the brakes on his hunt for a tenth consecutive title?
If that wasn’t enough truck action, the International Truck Prix also returns. Two epic contests will feature on each day, with Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness returning to truck racing once again after taking his maiden podium in the category at last year’s event.
There’s a full support package too, including further action from the Britcar Endurance Championship, Junior Saloon Car Championship, Track Action, CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship, OT Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires and even single-seater racing in the Heroes of FF1600 Sprint Cup.
But Convoy in the Park isn’t just about the racing, with a massive lineup of family fun and entertainment scheduled. The Live Action Arena, with viewing from Redgate corner, will feature truck drifting and the fan-favourite caravan smash. There’s even the chance to get behind the wheel with Drive A Truck and Drift Car experiences, as well as passenger rides in the spectacular Blade Monster Truck.
The live music stage on the infield will get the party atmosphere going from 13:00 on both days, while manufacturer displays and a Show Truck village will showcase hundreds of giant machines around the venue, with many adorned in eye-catching show liveries.
For the little ones attending, the Kids Zone guarantees family fun with bouncy castles, funfair, circus skills, helter skelter, mini monster trucks, Scalextric and more. Roaming dinosaurs and transformers will provide further excitement over the weekend.
If the on-track heavyweight clashes weren’t enough, BEW Wrestling will provide family-friendly Championship Showdowns with an array of colourful characters taking to the ring. And finally, head over to the Launch Pad to find the Lincolnshire RC Truckers display featuring a range of 1/14 scale radio-controlled models.
Tickets for Convoy in the Park are still available in advance, priced at £29 per day for adults, £17 for teenagers aged 13-15 and free entry all weekend for children under-13. For more information and to book, click here.
