Convoy in the Park roars into life with opening races

09 August 2025

Donington Park’s annual festival of all things trucking roared back into life today (Saturday), headlined by four supersized races from the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) and the International Truck Prix. Michael Oliver and David Jenkins split the spoils in the BTRC contests while Mark Taylor and Simon Reid won the two International Truck Prix races.

In BTRC qualifying, it was Michael Oliver who secured pole position ahead of the first of nine truck races across the Convoy weekend. The MAN TGS driver would subsequently lead away from pole position in race one to take a controlled victory ahead of David Jenkins and Ryan Smith, who charged up to the podium from sixth on the grid.

The second BTRC race of the day once again saw Oliver start on pole position. But it would be David Jenkins who would take the lead into Redgate corner after a lightning-fast start. Ryan Smith started well again too, moving up to fifth by the end of the first lap. Jenkins took victory behind the wheel of his International Navistar, while Steven Powell finished second with Ryan Smith storming to his second podium of the weekend after Oliver was hit by a late-race time penalty for exceeding track limits.

Meanwhile, the International Truck Prix returned to Donington Park for a third consecutive year with another strong grid featuring some special guests such as two-wheel legend John McGuinness.

Qualifying went the way of Mark Taylor, who would subsequently convert that into victory in race one ahead of Simon Reid and McGuinness, a year on from the Morecambe racer’s first truck podium at this same event.

The second race of the International Truck Prix brought an end to the first day of track action, with Taylor starting from the top spot on the grid. He looked set to secure a double victory but would receive a five-second track limit penalty, handing the win to Simon Reid with Taylor second and Nathan Smith in third.

In the other categories competing, the first Junior Saloon Car Championship race was won by Josh Selvadorai, while the Britcar Endurance Championship contest saw the Porsche 911 Cup of Ash Muldoon and James Kellett take victory. The stunning Lotus Esprit V8 of Simon Allaway took the win in the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Championship.
