World SBK Free Practice 3: Alex Lowes edges out brother Sam with last gasp Donington effort

12 July 2025

Alex Lowes topped the final MOTUL FIM Superbike Championship Free Practice session of the weekend at Donington Park this morning (Saturday), edging out twin brother Sam Lowes to claim the top spot.

Sam Lowes had been top with just moments remaining in the session which took place in bright and sunny conditions at the East Midlands circuit before Alex Lowes popped in a time almost three tenths of a second faster in the final moments. His time of 1m25.354s was almost a second faster than the pace set during Friday’s faster session.

Superstar BMW rider Toprak Razgatlioglu was third in the 20-minute practice period, just under four tenths shy of the leading Lowes brother. Andrea Locatelli was fourth, just ahead of Ryan Vickers who produced his strongest showing of the weekend so far to take fifth.

American Garrett Gerloff was sixth, one place ahead of World SBK legend Jonathan Rea who rose into the top-10 for the first time this weekend astride his Yamaha. Nicolo Bulega was eighth following his session topping performance yesterday afternoon, with Yari Montella and Dominique Aegerter completing the top-10.

The next headline action comes up in Tissot Superpole at 11am.
