The final day of the Donington Historic Festival delivered seven fantastic races, wrapping up the retro weekend in unforgettable style.
The first race of the day was the Historic Touring Car Challenge and Tony Dron Trophy. Drivers Bailey and Middlehurst took first place at the wheel of a Nissan Skyline GTR. Darren Fielding joined them on the podium in second place, and Steve Dance in third place.
Monster machines in GT3 Legends were up next for their second race of the weekend. Jonathan Mitchell achieved first place once again in an Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Christian Albrecht achieved second after his third place finish yesterday, followed by Max Lynn on the third step of the podium.
After the lunch break, the Superformance Ferrari Club Classic commenced their third race of the weekend with a 20-minute sprint. Wayne Marrs finished in first place again in a F355 Challenge, and Tristan Simpson returned to the podium in second place, followed by Colin Sowter in third place.
The HRDC ‘Gerry Marshall Trophy’ Series followed with tin top heroes from the pre-’83 Group 1 era. Drivers Lewis and Brundle achieved gold behind the wheel of a Jaguar XJS, followed by Michael Whitaker Junior and Young Jo and Young Ja.
More tin-top action followed in the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy to see Smith and Reynolds take the win in a Lotus Ford Cortina Mk1. Giddings and Streather, and Richard Dutton also joined the podium driving Cortinas.
Endurance racing followed with an hour-long race from the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy & Stirling Moss Trophy. Tilley and Bryant were victorious in a Lotus 15, followed by William Nuthall, and Crosthwaite and Finburgh.
The final race of the weekend was a shorter 30-minute competition from the HRDC Dunlop Allstars. Mike Whitaker Senior took the win driving a TVR Griffith, and was joined on the podium by John Spiers and Sam Tordoff.
