British GT Race: Dawson and Jewiss crowned GT3 champions as Mitchell and Martin claim race win

Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss of 2 Seas Motorsport are the British GT GT3 champions after a tumultuous race, which saw Barwell Motorsport's Sandy Mitchell and Alex Martin take on-track victory.

Mitchell and Martin took a decisive race win, finishing over 30 seconds down the road from their second-placed teammates, Hugo Cook and Rob Collard, the former of which also solidified second in the championship.

Dawson's opening stint saw him make contact with both championship rivals. The first collision was with Blackthorn's Giacomo Petrobelli, the pair going side-by-side before spinning off in tandem. Dawson recovered before making contact with Morgan Tillbrook which sent the latter into the gravel, but was able to recover. The championship-leader took a 10-second penalty for the incident, which was served during the pit stop.

Tillbrook then found his way into the gravel, this time his car was not recoverable and he remained beached until a full course yellow was brought out.

Under the pit stop phases, Mitchell inherited the lead from Cook, the latter's compensation time coming into play. Jewiss took over the reins from Dawson, and began to steadily recover positions lost in the pits.

As conditions worsened, Mitchell continued to build his lead over Cook. Jewiss remained relatively out of drama, despite a late-stage nudge from Nick Yelloly.

Mitchell crossed beneath the chequered flag to take victory, ahead of Cook. Maximilian Gotz brought his and Kevin Tse's 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes to third place, rounding off the podium spots. Tse and Gotz also wrapped up the third-place spot in the GT3 standings.

The championship winners finished fourth, ahead of Blackthorn's Darren Leung and Yelloly. Sixth spot went to Beechdean Motorsport Ltd's Andrew Howard and Tom Wood, with Spirit of Race SA's Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin in seventh.

Matt Topham and Marcus Clutton's Orange Racing by JMH McLaren finished eighth, while father-son duo Richard and Sam Neary of Team Abba Racing were ninth. Completing the top ten finishers were Paddock Motorsport's Mark Smith and Martin Plowman.

The GT4 race victory went to Optimum Motorsport's Marc Warren and Jack Brown, which also handed them the GT4 title following a race filled with battles with the #69 Mahiki of Luke Garlick and Blake Angliss.
