Truck aces thrill on opening day of Convoy in the Park

20 August 2022

A pair of races from the British Truck Racing Championship were the on track highlights of the first day of Donington's Convoy in the Park today (Saturday).

Reigning champion Ryan Smith converted pole position to another win in a frantic opening contest in his Daimler 12000, finishing nearly four seconds clear of Stuart Oliver who jumped to second on the first lap, while Simon Reid finished just half a second further back in third.

The second contest saw Smith hit trouble early on, handing the victory to Reid, who finished 2.5 ahead of Oliver, who claimed another runner-up spot, just holding off David Jenkins by 0.6s again after a race-long tussle.

Meanwhile, additional on track action from Legends, Pickup Trucks, the British Endurance Championship and the Praga Cup kept a big crowd entertained long into the afternoon.

Off track highlights also kicked into gear, with the Live Action Arena providing plenty of entertainment with Drift Trucks, rally demos and much more, a busy main infield stage with live music and other attractions, while hundreds of show trucks poured into the venue.

The fun continues into tomorrow, with three additional truck races, plus loads more racing action, and a full package of family fun.
