Hager PBM Ducati’s Glenn Irwin stole a march on his rivals to claim his fourth win of the season in the second Bennetts British Superbike Championship race of the weekend at Donington Park.
The 2023 championship runner-up jumped into the lead from second on the grid on the first lap, and then built a good early gap of over a second to take control of the race.
ROKiT Haslam Racing BMW Motorrad’s Leon Haslam made a similarly quick start to jump into second on the first lap, and the local man applied big pressure on Irwin late on, closing the gap to just three tenths of a second in the closing stages. Irwin's latest win ensured he built his early championship lead further.
Reigning champion Tommy Bridewell again sliced through his rivals on his way to third from fifth on the grid ahead of McAMS Racing Yamaha’s Danny Kent, who set fastest lap on the way to fourth.
Race one winner Kyle Ryde was in the thick of the action for OMG GRILLA Yamaha as he claimed fifth, while pole sitter Christian Iddon bounced back from his crash yesterday to take sixth place for Oxford Products Racing Ducati.
Charlie Nesbitt (MasterMac Honda) took seventh from 11th on the grid, ahead of FHO Racing BMW Motorrad’s Josh Brookes with Andrew Irwin (Honda Racing UK) and Fraser Rogers (TAG Honda) completing the top-10.
